The Cuban Institute of Music (ICM) today expressed its support for the Cuban band Buena Fe, which is on tour in Spain, where it has been the target of concert cancellations and media attacks.
Indira Fajardo, President of ICM, expressed her official complaint at a press conference about the harassment and campaigns that have been organized against the group by the media and digital communication platforms.
He pointed out that while Buena Fe had a great presentation at the Sala Galileo Galilei in Madrid on May 12, the boycott was carried out not only against the musicians, but also against the owners, businessmen and programmers of the site and provoked a reaction from the audience. Evidence that these attacks were pre-arranged is clear as social media videos called for an attack on the Cuban group, Fajardo commented.
This escalation was conceived long before the concerts were held, and is in line with the same method of demonizing national culture that was applied to artists from the largest Antilles, such as Van Van, Alexandre Abreu and his band Havana D’ Primera and Pedrito Calvo. several, emphasized the president of ICM. He noted that the cancellation of the concerts that Omara Portuondo will give in the future is also moving forward.
Buena Fe, Fajardo said, has completed a successful national tour to promote Morada, his latest record, and this has also been planned for various Spanish cities such as Bilbao in the Basque Country, but as a group that defends his work. and prefers to live in Cuba, they are trying to veto his music in the world.
He stressed that these plans have a negative effect on the culture of the Caribbean country, as they bill for their presence on the international stage, which is part of a blockade that goes beyond the economic sphere and aims to drown people.
We call on the international community to condemn such unfortunate events that threaten the development of the art of the Antillean nation, he said. According to the group on their official Facebook page, concerts planned in Salamanca and Zamora have been suspended under the pretext of defending democracy.
