“The revolution we are making is not the revolution we want; The revolution we want is the revolution you are about to make.” 61 years have passed since our Commander-in-Chief made this request in his closing speech at the Congress of the Union of Young Insurgents, at which a new name for the organization was agreed upon: the Union of Young Communists.
It still feels like an idea fresh out of the oven: hot, lively, and with the right coherence to put it on the table of any historical period after a great triumph. Fidel, with his always futuristic and precise vision, could not be mistaken in entrusting the fate of the country to new generations, when a few months earlier – and with him – young people were the first to take up arms against Batista’s dictatorship. .
Fear will have to be asked from cowards, unsure of themselves, far-sighted, but not among these young people, no matter who they are and no matter how “lost” they are, because rebellion does not play for nothing. I don’t think this is the stage of life where doubts or fears take root, or where the alarm whistle is expected to disappear.
History has clearly shown, and in recent times we see how young people continue to play a decisive role in the present of the country. Not without reason, on March 26, we approved a new Cuban parliament, in which 20 percent of the members are under 35 years old.
And I don’t just mean the numbers, one fifth of those 470 deputies, but also the responsibility that comes with expressing opinions, making decisions and transforming so that Cuba is always the ideal place to implement our life projects.
In fact, we are in the presence of that disgusting generational base, ideal to offer a battle for the changes that we need today, because we live in a country that can be improved, true, but where new generations do not need to rewrite history with scratch, but preserve, expand, continue on the path of new goals.
Where everyone sees windmills, youth is able to see wild monsters devoid of common sense, which can be defeated only by strength and perseverance. Others may doubt it, but youth is the direct act of change, and we understand little of the impossible.
Yeah; we were one of the first to launch, and this has nothing to do with the “short” past that is at risk. Yeah; we can take the reins of a country, organization, struggle, change. Yeah; we are tomorrow, but before we are also now.
