Triathletes again swim, ride and run through the streets of Havana

This Sunday, the Havana International Triathlon returns to the capital of all Cubans for the seventh time.

At a press conference held this Saturday at the Hotel Nacional, the organizers of the bout, which is returning after a three-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, announced that, unlike previous versions, this time the competition will only take place on one day. which was reserved for the Olympic triathlon and sprint.

According to the president of the Cuban Triathlon Federation, Jit Alejandro Puerto, there will be no middle distance due to the low number of registrations, although this test is expected to be considered for the 2024 competition.

According to ACN, elite triathletes will compete in the 1500m swim, 40k cycle and 10k run, starting from the canals of Marina Hemingway and ending in the gardens of the Nacional Hotel as usual; while the popular sprint will feature athletes aged 15 to 80 who swim 750 meters, run 20 km on bikes and finish the race at 5 km.

The organizers of the event announced the participation in the first category of 26 women and 42 men from America, Europe and Asia, who will also take part in the America’s Cup Triathlon Patco 2023.

Cuba will feature top triathletes led by Leslie Amat and Alejandro Rodriguez, who recently competed at the La Guaira 2023 Pan American Triathlon Cup in Venezuela, where Rodriguez from Havana set a time of 2:03:05, earning him a well deserved eleventh place at the men’s fair.

For her part, in the women’s event, Leslie placed sixth with a time of 2:06:12.

The Havana Triathlon is an event that gives points for the International Federation ranking for this discipline.
