Cuba ends with victory and goals achieved in the League of Nations

The Cuban football team (m) achieved its two main goals in the 2022-2023 Concacacaf Nations League (CNL) this Sunday by beating Guadeloupe by a minimum and thus securing not only promotion to League A, but also a direct passage to the Golden Cup .

At the Antonio Maceo stadium in Santiago, the Leones del Caribe hosted the rematch-hungry Guadalupeños, as they lost to them on the first match of League B Group A.

The only goal of the afternoon came on aggregate in the first half (45+2) when Karel Espino crossed from the right and Jasniel Matoš fired from the right wide of the far post, scoring one of the most important goals in the recent past of the national team.

The second half was pretty rough, with Pablo Elier Sanchez’s students pulling out and Guadalupe looking for a draw in every possible way. The home team had several chances to come forward, but they lacked accuracy at the gate. Fortunately, on the other hand, Raiko Arozarena was a giant and stopped all opportunities for the neighbors in the Caribbean.

After this result, combined with Barbados’ victory over Antigua and Barbuda (2-1), Cuba topped their group with 15 points (+8 goal difference). The rest of the positions corresponded in this order to the Guadeloupes (9), Antiguans (9) and Barbadians (3).

The next challenges for the four-letter squad will be the Gold Cup, scheduled from June 26 to July 16 in the US, and later the next version of CNL, which starts this September and ends in March. 2024.
