East starts from the right foot

The Women’s Major League Basketball (LSB) semi-finals began this Wednesday with no surprises, and after the triumphs in Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo, many are starting to worry about a possible title discussion between the eastern teams. If that were to happen, these teams would once again face off in a showdown, as in the previous version, the Invincibles moved to the center of the podium thanks to three wins in four games.

At this point, it is still too early to predict what might happen, although it is equally true that starting with a win is a good omen. Meanwhile, the Guantanamo team beat representative Ciego de Ávila as guests at the Giraldo Córdoba Cardin multi-purpose hall by a score of 73–64 (9–20, 25–15, 18–13, 21–16).

Experienced Maria Isabel Montero with 20 points, as well as Barbara Martinez and Claudia Jiménez with 15 points, led the artillery of the winners, while Lianelis Mosqueda, author of 17 cards, became an offensive spark plug for the locals.

In another match, the Havanese failed to take advantage of their location on the court of Ramon Fonst and lost to Santiago de Cuba with a score of 61-72. The winners dominated the qualifying stage with a balance of 13 smiles – eight in a row – and a single loss to a group from the country’s easternmost province, for which they are favorites, for another year to capture the crown.

This Thursday, the semi-finals will continue at the same venues, and teams with three successes will receive tickets to the fight for first place.
