Cuba and Venezuela dominate V ALBA Games medal table

The delegations of Venezuela and Cuba distinguished themselves on Sunday with valuable victories in various categories and dominated the table of medals of the V ALBA Games, which take place on the territory of Venezuela, reports Telesur.

The organization of regional sports fairs, which began last Friday and will end on Saturday, April 29, said on its website that 259 medals have been awarded so far, of which 90 are gold, another 90 are silver and 79 are bronze.

Venezuela leads the competition, which takes place at 27 sports venues, with 62 gold, 67 silver and 44 bronze medals, 173 in total.

Cuban athletes, for their part, have won 22 gold, 10 silver and nine bronze medals, for a total of 41.

Nicaragua also appears in the medal table with three golds, 12 silvers and 23 bronzes (38 in total); while Bolivia won seven medals (three gold, one silver and three bronze).

This list does not yet include delegations from other participating countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Russia (guest country).

Among Sunday’s most notable victories, Venezuela’s four gold medals in the taekwondo category, a discipline in which Cuba won two gold medals, stand out.

In the test of the individual cycling route, the Venezuelans Reinaldo Arocha, Luis Pinto and Luis Mora showed 1-2-3.

The Venezuela women’s national football team started their participation in the Alba 2023 Games on the right foot, defeating Dominica from 13 goals to 0.
