The President of Cuba congratulated the volleyball players on their victory

Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and President of the Republic, today congratulated several athletes from the island on their performance at this weekend’s sporting events.

On Twitter, the President celebrated the achievements of volleyball players Lazaro Portes and Daniel Martinez, jumper Robiel Yankiel Saul and boxer Yoenlis Hernandez, who were crowned in their respective sports.

Congratulations to juniors Daniel and Lazaro, the Cuban duo who won gold in Norsec; also to Yankiel for his long jump world record; and boxer Yoenlis for his second world title. Good sports harvest in #Cuba this weekend!

This Sunday, the beach volleyball duo of Daniel and Lázaro won the gold medal at the second stop of the Norseca circuit, beating Team USA 2-1 on the sands of Varadero.

From Italy came the news of the world record of Robiel Jankiel Sol, 7.69 meters, champion of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, in the long jump category T46 (impaired upper limb) at the Grand Prix of Athletics in Jesolo in 2023.

Another positive result for Cuba came from the punches of Yoenlis Hernandez in the 75kg weight class, who defeated Brazilian Wanderlei Pereira at the 2023 Tashkent World Boxing Championship in Uzbekistan.
