Despite a 6-4 loss in the eleventh sub-series farewell against La Isla, Mayabeque’s team maintained their lead in the National Series, half a unit ahead of Santiago de Cuba and Matanzas.

The Pirates made a three-round package at the end of Section 8 when a good start from Yadian Martinez (7.1INN, ) ended and they started against Adrian Sosa, the Hurricanes’ bullpen ace, who fell short.

Franky Quintana (2.0 INN, 2H and 2K) signed his third win and, along with nine saves, contributed nearly half of his team’s success.

Of the leaders, Santiago de Cuba benefited the most from Friday afternoon, beating Granma 3-1 with pitcher Alberto Bisset (7.1 INN, 1CL, 6H, 1K and 3BB) and bat Yoelkis Gibert (3-3, HR and 1CI).

Cienfuegos saved the honor from Matanzas (10-5) with the seventh victory of Islay Sotolongo (8.0 INN, 3CL, 5H, 4K and 2BB), who leads the table of wins along with Artemis’ Yunieska Garcia.

Impressive is Pinar del Rio pitcher Earley Casanova, who started in seven games and didn’t need a bullpen in any of them. Today he led the Vegueros to a 2-1 win over Artemisa.

Meanwhile, Industriales and Camaguey determined their pairing in a hard-fought game that reached the eighth section with two hugs as southpaw Dariel Gongora ended his run for the Bulls. In this section, the Lions stepped on the rubber three times and decided 5-2.

Before this clash began, a tribute was paid to Roberto Pacheco, one of the iconic voices of Cuban sports storytelling, who recently passed away.

Pacheco has competed in over 50 national series and his curriculum has included almost every major international event of the last five decades that Cuban sports have participated in.

The ceremony was attended by Jorge Luis Broce Lorenzo, a member of the secretariat of the Central Committee of the party and head of its department for attention to the social sector, as well as the main leaders of Inder, ICRT, UPEC, as well as relatives and colleagues.

The card was completed with a victory for Holguin, who beat Leopardos de Villa Clara (3-0) thanks to the teamwork of Ruben Rodriguez (7.0 INN, 3H, 5BB) and Michel Cabrera, who made eight saves.

Games between Sancti Spiritus and Ciego de Avila and Las Tunas against Guantanamo were suspended due to rain.

Tomorrow is transfer day and the new sub-series will start on Sunday when the last third of the calendar is played.

Table of positions: Mayabeque (31-22), Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba (31-23), Artemisa (29-23), Las Tunas (27-24), Holguin (28-26), Sancti Spiritus and Pinar del Rio.
