Judo and shooting represent the teams heading to the Central Caribbean.

Recently, the federations of each sport announced the judo and shooting sports teams that will represent Cuba at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador in 2023.

The 14 men and women who will climb the tatami of the José Adolfo Pineda Municipal Gymnasium are led by Olympic champion and multiple medalist Idalis Ortiz in the weight category over 78 kilograms; 2022 world champion Andy Granda (+100 kg); 2018 world title holder, Ivan Silva (90 kg); world bronze Kaliema Antomarchi (78 kg) and two-time Pan American title holder Magdiel Estrada (73 kg).

The women’s team is complemented by the experienced Mailin del Toro (63 kg), as well as Arnaes Odelin (57 kg), Idelannis Gomez (70 kg), Zamarit Gregorio (48 kg) and Yurisleidi Hernandez (52 kg).

Meanwhile, the men’s team also consisted of Jorge Martinez (81kg), Orlando Polanco (66kg), Lister Cardona (100kg) and Milko Obregon at 60kg.

In the past games of Barranquilla 2018, judokas from the Greater Antilles have dominated the country table with a harvest of eight gold, three silver and six bronze medals, for a total of 17 podium finishes.

Then the men’s sector won five titles, including in a team fight and four more in a personal fight, on account of Estrada (73 kg), Silva (90 kg), Granda (+100 kg) and Osniel Solis (66 kg). In addition, the wards of Julio Alderete added silver to Jose Armenteros (100 kg) and bronze to Yandri Torres (55 kg), Roberto Almenares (60 kg), Jorge Martinez (81 kg).

For their part, the women celebrated three crowns: one in the collective duel and another pair courtesy of Kalima (78 kg) and Idalis (+78 kg). This time, the team’s subtitles were in line with Melissa Hurtado (48kg) and Anaylis Dorvini (57kg), with Nakhomys Acosta (52kg), Del Toro (63kg) and Onyx Cortes (70kg) coming in third.

Shooters will have six shooters, eight shooters and three shooters (cymbals) and will aim to be in the top three nations of the Central Caribbean Tournament.

The Olympic gold (2012) and silver (2021) Leuris Pupo, who is the favorite in shooting from a 25-meter rapid-fire pistol, stands out in the squad of shooters.
