All Cuban Baseball Quarterfinal Matches Determined

Today’s defeat of Ciego de Avila from La Isla determined the last matches of the quarterfinals of the Cuban baseball tournament. Los Tigres went down 1-2 in 11 innings and found themselves in eighth place in the set-up they face leaders Las Tunas in the postseason.

The Pirates’ win in the last postponed game of the preliminary stage saw Camaguey move up to seventh place to face Santiago de Cuba in the first round of the playoffs.

Thus, four duels are completed, as clashes between Industriales Sancti Spiritus and Matanzas Artemisa were scheduled for several days.

The Cuban baseball postseason kicks off July 8 at the Julio Antonio Mella and Guillermont Moncada stadiums in Las Tunas and Santiago de Cuba, respectively, which lead the league table.

All playoff series will be best played in seven games, always starting at 2:00 pm (local time).

As an innovation, Cuban players living abroad can participate without having to fulfill the repatriation requirement, which was recently abolished for national sports competitions.

Cuba will have a new champion after the last two editions’ monarch Alazanes de Granma was eliminated.
