BEIJING, 14 February. — China and Iran have strengthened their cooperative relationship by signing agreements that should promote the expansion of exchanges in various socio-economic sectors, which were signed after official talks between Presidents Xi Jinping and Ebrahim Raisi from a visit to this capital until Thursday.
The agreements cover agriculture, trade, tourism, environmental protection, healthcare, disaster mitigation, culture and sports and other areas, according to Prensa Latina, and also complement a 25-year, $400 billion cooperation pact signed between two countries in 2021, when Iran also joined China’s Gaza and Silk Road Initiative.
During official talks on Tuesday the 14th, Xi assured that the Asian giant will always maintain relations with the Islamic nation from a strategic point of view, regardless of changes in the regional and international arena.
He noted the achievements of recent years in bilateral relations, the strengthening of mutual trust and the joint defense of a more just world.
For his part, Raisi stressed the commitment of both nations to respect and sincerity in their relationship after reaffirming the commitment to take it to a higher level.
On Tuesday, the senior official also held talks with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang and parliament leader Li Zhanshu.
According to the Iranian press, his program includes meetings with businessmen of the Asian giant and a meeting with compatriots living in China.
Raisi’s trip came after meeting Xi in Uzbekistan in September 2022.
