He emphasized that support for LDCs should be directed towards achieving inclusive economic growth and sustainable development, eradicating poverty and hunger, post-pandemic recovery, strengthening national health systems, energy development and environmental protection.
Malmierca added that writing off external debt is not enough, it is necessary to mobilize resources by attracting foreign direct investment.
In this regard, he pointed out that South-South and triangular cooperation were good practices, but they were not a substitute for North-South cooperation, which should be geared towards the poorest countries.
He also called for an end to unilateral coercive measures and thanked the international community for lifting the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba over six decades ago.
During the Cuban Presidency of the Group of 77 plus China, he reaffirmed the commitment of the least developed countries to help overcome obstacles to their sustainable development.
