Former President Jair Bolsonaro returned to Brazil this Thursday after a three-month stay in the US, and now from the Liberal Party (PL), he will lead the opposition against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, according to Prensa Latina.
From Brasilia International Airport, the ex-soldier went to the headquarters of the LP and greeted the allies and parliamentarians. The first to receive it was the leader of the party and former federal deputy, Valdemar Costa Neto.
He was also embraced by Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, General Walter Braga Netto and Congressman Elio Lopez.
According to CNN Brasil, Bolsonaro will officially take over as honorary president of the party next week.
Hours before his arrival, the Federal Police called the former ruler and his former aide, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Sid, to testify on April 5 in a case involving jewelry obtained by the Saudi government.
Bolsonaro will face an investigation into those present, some of whom entered the country illegally.
The allegations include a bag from Swiss luxury brand Chopard that the far-right politician returned last week by court order.
Also a set of diamond necklace and earrings of the same brand for Michelle Bolsonaro.
The package, valued by the press at over $3 million, was confiscated by customs when a ministerial delegation tried to smuggle it into the country in 2021.
The former uniformed man has other reasons for justice. He faces five Federal Supreme Court investigations, four of which were initiated during his presidency (2019-2022).
Similarly, he is being investigated as the alleged instigator of the January 8 coup attempt and vandalism by radical supporters in that capital.
