Jerusalem, 6 April. — For the second day in a row, Israeli police storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem. According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, at least six people were injured in a police raid against Muslim worshipers inside the sacred compound.

For its part, the Islamic Waqf Council, which is in charge of the religious complex, said police used stun grenades and rubber bullets to disperse worshipers. Local Palestinian media reported that the occupation police’s incursion came as nearly 20,000 people performed the nightly Taraweeh prayer identifying Ramadan, Telesur reported.

In a statement, the Israeli police attempted to justify their incursion by saying that “dozens of young delinquents” tried to barricade themselves inside the mosque to provoke riots and that the forces broke in because they were trying to close the doors of the temple. These Israeli raids drew condemnation from the entire Muslim world and the United Nations (UN).

The Security Council was expected to hold an emergency private meeting on Thursday to discuss Israeli violations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
