Ambassador of Vietnam to Cuba Le Thanh Tung Author: rebellious youth
Cuba and Vietnam today have great potential for strengthening and expanding economic cooperation, trade and investment in various fields, said Ambassador Le Thanh Tung of the Asian country.
In an interview with Prensa Latina, the diplomat confirmed that this is one of the goals of the official visit to Cuba, which will take place from April 18 to 22, the Chairman of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Vietnam, Vuong Dinh Hue, led by a large delegation.
The signing of ministerial agreements and the review of previous agreements are on the busy agenda of the delegation of ministers, deputy heads of important portfolios, businessmen and Annam parliamentarians.
Tung said the high-level delegation’s goal is to strengthen Vietnam’s position as Cuba’s second largest trading partner in Asia and Oceania and the largest investor from the region in the island.
“Despite the difficulties and challenges, economic, trade and investment cooperation is of great interest to both sides. Companies and joint ventures with 100% foreign capital have been established and are now operating with fruitful results,” he said.
The Ambassador highlighted the progress of the implementation of agricultural cooperation projects, especially the support of the Caribbean island for the development of family production of rice, soybeans and aquaculture.
“Vietnamese businessmen are exploring other opportunities to invest in the Cuban market, taking advantage of the special relationship between our governments and peoples,” he said.
The diplomat also acknowledged that cooperation in the field of biotechnology is especially relevant in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At this crucial moment, Cuba fulfilled the signed contract for the supply of five million doses of the Abdal vaccine.
In addition, political contacts and exchanges were maintained through videoconferencing, even at the highest level. In September 2021, then Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Havana and held constructive talks with his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel and other leaders of the host country, the head of mission recalled.
On April 1, 2020, the Trade Agreement between the two countries came into force. The new obligations are preferential and beneficial for companies in both countries.
The agreement ensures that the signed documents create favorable conditions for bilateral business and import and export activities.
