Army General Raul Castro Ruz, leader of the Revolution, and Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez received this Thursday the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, His Excellency Mr. Sergey Lavrov, who is visiting our country.
During the meeting, we were able to convince ourselves of the excellent relations between Russia and Cuba, based on traditional ties of friendship, to which both governments pay great attention, as evidenced by the high political level achieved and the extensive exchange of visits carried out. .
The general of the army referred to Diaz-Canel’s visit to Moscow last November, which enabled the strengthening of exchanges in areas of mutual interest. Similarly, he confirmed Cuba’s interest in further developing ties between the two countries.
President Diaz-Canel thanked Russia for its traditional and firm support for the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly against the blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba, as well as for its repeated public condemnation of this criminal US policy.
The Cuban president has advocated seeking a peaceful solution to the current crisis in Europe through diplomatic channels that guarantee the security and sovereignty of all, as well as regional stability and security, while condemning the unilateral sanctions imposed against Russia.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister regarded the sustainable political dialogue as valuable, friendly and aimed at developing bilateral relations in all areas of interest and mutual benefit.
The distinguished guest was accompanied by His Excellency Sergey A. Ryabkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Victor V. Koronelli, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Cuba; and Alexey Yu. Drobinin and Alexander V. Shchetinin, Directors of the Department of Foreign Policy Planning and the Department of Latin America of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, respectively.
The Cuban side was also attended by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla; head of the department of international relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Emilio Losada Garcia; Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo and Director General for Bilateral Relations Ángel Villa Hernández.
