This Saturday, the Bolivian prosecutor’s office submitted to the court an extension of the formal charges against the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, in the case of coup d’état I.
The indictment addresses six new offenses, such as terrorist financing, corruption of troops, public incitement to commit a crime, active bribery and criminal association, for which an additional four months of preventive detention is required.
Last Thursday, the request was submitted to the 1st Anti-Corruption Investigation Court of La Paz, where they are asking for a day and time for a precautionary hearing.
According to the indictment published by DTV, there are indications that Camacho is the author of six crimes that are “classified and punished in accordance with articles 133 bis, 158, 127, 130 and 132 of the Criminal Code.”
Similarly, the text adds the offense of misuse of public goods and services, which is “classified and punished in section 26 of Law 004 in connection with section 20 of the same basic criminal law.”
The same governor of Santa Cruz revealed at a meeting with friends that in December 2019, his father agreed with the military and police to withhold his support for then-President Evo Morales, precipitating the coup d’état and the government’s takeover. The de facto government is led by Jeanine Agnes.
Similarly, government minister Eduardo del Castillo denounced that millionaires made movements in Camacho’s bank accounts before, during, and after the coup.
Luis Fernando Camacho has been under preventive detention in Chonchocoro Prison since December 30, 2022, and has been prosecuted for coup d’état I to determine his responsibility in the events that led to the resignation of Evo Morales.
