African Union calls for assistance to Sudanese civilians

The African Union (AU) called on neighboring Sudanese states and the international community to provide humanitarian assistance to civilians fleeing armed clashes in Khartoum, PL reports.

African Union Commission President Moussa Faki Mahamat said in a statement that he continues to watch with growing concern the plight of people caught up in the bloody conflict that began on April 15 and left more than 460 people dead. four thousand were injured, according to health authorities.

He reiterated his call for the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to immediately agree to a permanent ceasefire in order to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese in dire need.

In recent months, disagreements have been brewing between the two sides over military security reform.

The reform provides for the full participation of the TFR in the armed forces, which is one of the main issues in negotiations with international and regional parties on the transition to a civilian and democratic government.
