Syria regains its seat in the Arab League

DAMASK, May 7 — The Council of the Arab League, held at the level of foreign ministers in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, today unanimously decided to return Syria to take its place in this organization, as reported by PL.

The resolution adopted by the foreign ministers bears the number 8914 and confirms that from today Sunday, May 7, the participation of Syrian delegations in meetings of the Council of the League and its organizations will resume, media reports here.

In a statement released at the end of the meeting, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability of Syria, and to continuing and intensifying Arab efforts to help Syria out of the crisis.

The statement stresses the need for direct dialogue with the Syrian government to reach a comprehensive solution to the crisis that will end the suffering of the Syrian people, which has lasted for more than 12 years.

The membership of Syria, the founding country of this organization, was frozen in 2011, months after the start of the war in that country.

The media and analysts here hailed the decision as the beginning of the end of the conflict in the country, as well as a political victory achieved without concessions from Damascus.
