The Continental Association of Social and Popular Movements for ALBA (ALBA Movements) will launch this Friday the Bolivar vs. Bolivar fight. Monroe in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Monroe Doctrine, which will be executed next December.
According to the platform, “various organizations fighting against the US imperialist project will carry out actions through their social networks and across the continent to put the current state of the imperialist system on the agenda.”
The call indicates that the goal of the campaign is to establish a historical connection, as well as to make visible the ongoing effects of the Monroe Doctrine in Latin America and the Caribbean from different angles, Telesur reports.
Similarly, ALBA Movimientos indicated that Bolívar vs. Monroe is guided by the Bolivarian idea in an effort to resist the “America for Americans” project.
Based on this, the platform emphasized that continental unity is “the axis of ideas and the fundamental corner tool of Simón Bolívar, guaranteeing not only continental independence, but also the building of sovereign states.”
In turn, the articulation invited the media, journalists, students, intellectuals and society in general to take part in the events organized as part of the campaign.
The ALBA movements bring together more than 400 organizations from 25 countries to fight for the unity and integration of Latin America and the Caribbean for a liberating political project.
