The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, met on Friday at the Nacional Hotel with Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
As a significant, important visit, marking a milestone in relations between the two countries, the president described the stay on the island of the co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission on the occasion of the Cuban-Russian Business Economic Forum, whose closing took place in the 1930 hall of the symbolic hotel in Havana.
After the end of the Forum, at which eight important documents were signed on issues such as macroeconomics, artificial intelligence, wheat supplies, the development of joint ventures, etc., Diaz-Canel, in a dialogue with Chernyshenko, appreciated the understanding that Russia is involved, in particular , to President Putin, to the situation in Cuba and to the readiness to actively monitor the implementation of the agreements that were reached during the negotiations that took place between them last November in Russia.
First of all, the head of state said, “actions aimed at the implementation of projects that provide a comprehensive solution to the problems of Cuba and are mutually beneficial for the two peoples.”
Diaz-Canel believes that a colossal dynamic of work has been unleashed to fulfill these agreements. Since the end of last year, and especially in the months since this year, every week we have news that confirms this.
In this regard, he recalled the visits to Cuba in recent months by important Russian businessmen and high-ranking officials of this government. There is no doubt, he repeated, that we are at a very special moment in our bilateral relations.
We reaffirm our readiness and desire to continue to expand relations, and that we can bring, as Putin put it, economic, trade and financial ties to the same level of perfection as politicians and diplomats, he stressed.
Diaz-Canel thanked Russia for the solidarity in the fight against the US blockade and the humanitarian assistance received during the COVID-19 pandemic. With regard to the latter, he assured that we will never forget all the support received during the difficult days of the crisis caused by the accident at the Cuban oxygen plant.
In addition, the President stressed the important role played by the Russian Federation in building a multipolar world. “And this effort must be supported and will always be supported,” he said.
For his part, Dmitry Chernyshenko thanked for the reception given in Cuba and conveyed President Vladimir Putin’s greetings to Diaz-Canel and General of the Army Raul Castro Ruz.
He congratulated the President on his re-election for a second term, “which is a testament to the confidence of the Cuban people.” We highly appreciate, he noted, his participation in strategic relations between our two countries. The Russian leader recalled “the history of the revolutionary people of Cuba and the personality of the leader Fidel Castro Ruz.”
Cuba is a reliable friend of Russia in the Latin American region, therefore, despite the turbulent situation in the world due to the attempts of the United States and its allies to overthrow these relations, we always maintain their firmness, he assured.
Chernyshenko agreed with Diaz-Canel on the intensity of bilateral meetings in recent months and emphasized a privileged attitude towards relations between Cuba and Russia.
