President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declares a state of emergency in ten provinces of Turkey

ANKARA, 7 February. – The President of Turkey declared a state of emergency in ten provinces affected by the earthquake. Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed on Tuesday a three-month state of emergency in southeastern regions hit by a devastating earthquake that killed thousands.

We have decided to declare a state of emergency in order to ensure that the rescue work is carried out quickly,” Erdogan said in a speech broadcast on Turkish television. Tayyip Erdogan praised the work of rescuers and the difficult task of finding survivors, while recalling that more than 5,600 buildings collapsed due to the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Rescuers rush for a while to find people stuck under the rubble. More than 8,000 were dug up by rescuers or volunteers, according to CNN. Rescue teams in Turkey and Syria have confirmed the presence of more than 5,600 collapsed buildings, including several residential buildings in which most of the residents were sleeping during the main earthquake.

The wounded, who were treated after being rescued, were sent to hospitals in Mersin, Istanbul and Ankara.

To date, 54 thousand tents and 102 thousand beds have been sent to the regions, 53 thousand 317 rescuers are working in the earthquake zone. Satellite communication terminals have also been sent to the region to ensure uninterrupted communications.

It was also reported that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi spoke on the phone with President Bashar al-Assad and offered assistance to Syria after the devastating earthquake, the Egyptian President’s spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday.

On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri said in a telephone conversation with his Turkish and Syrian counterparts that Egypt is sending urgent aid to both countries.
