NUEVA GERONA, Island of Youth. “Today, the first two hectares of pine trees were planted in this Special Municipality to leave Quinoles as part of the First Caribbean Film and Environment Festival and in honor of World Environment Day.
Convened by the Isla Verde organizing committee chaired by Jorge Perugorria, a famous Cuban actor, hundreds of people, including pioneers, actors, activists, local, national and foreign media, left about 1,500 seedlings of Isla’s endemic pine tree underground. Youth.

Eleonora Insunza, President of the Green Film Network, who made most of the documentaries screened from May 31st to date at the Caribe cinema in Nueva Gerona available to Isla Verde, expressed the urgent need to continue acting for nature and described the Forest of Cinema as a space of will and hope.
“ The presence of the pine forest of the cinema in Isla de la Juventud inspires and invites all of us to join this adventure, because each tree planted will reduce 30 kg of carbon (CO2) emissions, and thus we will return to the territory the costs associated with event. in that sense,” he said.
The selected area is located nine kilometers from the capital of the municipality, in the center of the highway, so it is accessible for maintenance, care and continuity of planting operations.
