Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, Tesla and SpaceX, has assured that in about five to six years there will be an artificial superintelligence capable of surpassing any person in any discipline. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s smarter than all humans combined, he explained during a discussion on the future and dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) held this Wednesday via the Twitter Spaces feature.
California Democratic Rep. Ro Hanna and Wisconsin Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher also took part in the discussion. While everyone agreed on the importance of regulating the development of AI technologies, everyone approached this issue in their own way.
Hanna proposed the creation of an agency similar to the Food and Drug Administration with specialists to ensure food safety in the marketplace. For his part, Gallagher pointed out that such an agency cannot be dynamic enough to keep up with all the innovations that come very quickly.
On the same day, Musk announced the launch of his new company xAI, which will develop artificial intelligence to create an alternative to the popular OpenAI ChatGPT chatbot. According to the tycoon, the purpose of xAI is to understand the true nature of the universe.
