After a bad week at the start of the 2023 Nations League when they suffered three straight losses to Canada, Brazil and Italy, the Cuban men’s volleyball team left the best of their repertoire for the latest test of the competitive calendar with the Ottawa stage.
In Saturday’s duel, the Antilians had to face the always intimidating Brazilian team, which meant the Caribbean had to take on extra funds to try and beat the Ariverde team, and they did.
In a nervous battle that stretched over five electrified sets, especially in the final set, the boys from the Greater Antilles managed to snatch success from the South Americans 3:2 (16:25, 25:22, 29:27, 22). -25, 18-20) in a lawsuit in which ours were much more dominant than in their previous presentations.
The final numbers show Cuba as the absolute leader in attack with 70 points, three more than their opponents; in doing so, they also outclassed them in net work with 14 goals scored in a block by eight Brazilians. The service also favored them, as they reached five aces only two opponents.
Individually, Jesus Herrera with 30 points and Marlon Yant with 19 were the most prominent Cuban players; Meanwhile, in the Brazilian ranks of Drama, Neto Abubacar excelled in attack, scoring 23 goals, which contributed to the cause of his team.
In the second week of activity, the Cuban squad must measure their strength with their counterparts from Japan, Slovenia, France and Bulgaria, respectively. Matches will start on June 21st with headquarters in Orléans, France.
