CAMPECHE, Mexico. “No one wanted to go to work in rural hospitals where specialists were needed, for this reason we are very grateful to the doctors of our sister city of Cuba and its president for helping with doctors and specialists.”
Powerful were the words of gratitude from Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) this Saturday during an emotional meeting held by the Cuban delegation with a representative of Cuban medical workers stationed in that country and staff of the Mexican Social Security Institute. .
His government’s goal, he noted, is to have doctors available not only Monday to Friday, but seven days a week, 24 hours a day, in all institutions, in secondary hospitals, as well as in rural areas. And this task implies, said López Obrador (AMLO), the consolidation of the public health system in order to guarantee the right of all people to health.
According to him, to achieve this goal, the support that the Cuban government provides to the Aztec nation in terms of health is necessary. He couldn’t help thinking, he said, of Fidel, the “great visionary” who, while neoliberals hindered the education of doctors, in Cuba helped to educate them, and with it to strengthen “one of the best health care systems in the world.” .
Mexico, López Obrador told the Cuban head of state, will lead a more active movement of all countries to unite and defend the independence and sovereignty of Cuba. With all our respect, gratitude and support for Cuba, we will continue to defend, he said, the lifting of the blockade, which is unfair and inhumane.
The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, shortly before this, expressed admiration, respect and gratitude to the Cuban collaborators who serve the fraternal people. He emphasized that “his willingness to cooperate with this sister city without hesitation” is admirable.
“Your presence here at the request of the Mexican government contributes to the efforts of this country to provide comprehensive and high-quality medical care to a population that has never received such services or had limited access to them,” he said.
You, said Diaz-Canel, every day bring to life Marti’s ideal that the Motherland is Humanity, one of the most cited concepts and turned into a revolutionary practice by Fidel, the best and most complete follower of the ideas of the Apostle.
“It is about them that I think first of all when I see how you work with dedication and joy in this land that has never been a stranger, has always been a sister to all Cubans,” he stressed.
“Beloved Cuba”, “friend of the President”, “Cuban brothers” are just some of the many phrases of love and intimacy spoken during the meeting this Saturday. And it is that for Mexico, as Campeche Governor Laida Sansores San Roman emphasized in her words, Cuban doctors are welcomed here with joy “because they have come to inspire hope and write a chapter of exemplary solidarity in this state.”
Cuba, in his opinion, is the country in the world with the greatest international solidarity.
Then people heard about the trust, the trust that Mexico has given to our healthcare workers, who today are represented by more than 29 in-demand specialties. “They are in large hospitals, but above all in small communities where, in many cases, thanks to this collaboration, a specialist arrives for the first time,” said Zoe Robledo Aburto, director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), who also spoke about the possibility of hiring more the number of Cuban specialists in the field of complex general medicine.
Cuban Health Minister José Ángel Portal Miranda also spoke about the various milestones that mark the collaborative relationship that exists in the field of health. According to him, he recalled the difficult moments of the confrontation with the COVID-19 epidemic, when not only Mexico could count on the support of the Cuban brigades, but Cuba also received resources to overcome this difficult scenario.
As a final event this Saturday, Presidents Díaz-Canel and López Obrador led the dialogues of official delegations held in the protocol room of the El Palacio Cultural Center in the historic center of Campeche.
Presenting the exchanges, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard reaffirmed Mexico’s firm demand to remove Cuba from the list of countries that support terrorism.
This, according to him, is an unjust measure, with very negative consequences for the Cuban population, and also unjustified, especially when Cuba is a peaceful country.

It is always a great honor to get to the birthplace of Benito Juarez.
“Welcome President Miguel Diaz-Canel, it is a great honor to have you here in Campeche, in our country, which belongs to you as the leader of the worthy people of Cuba,” said Mexican President Andrés. Manuel López Obrador, receiving this Saturday morning at the international airport of this city the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the President of the Republic.
“Mexico and Cuba have always maintained a relationship of political brotherhood,” AMLO said on a brief tour of working and fighting to create in Mexico “isleños de corazón,” universal Cubans and Latinos like José Martí, Pedro Santacilia Palacios and Manuel. Marquez Sterling.
“We also could not,” he added, “keep silent, remain silent in the face of the historical fact that the ship Granma sailed from the port of Tuspan in this Gulf of Mexico with a group of revolutionaries such as Commander Fidel Castro. and the legendary guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara to liberate Cuba from the dictatorship of Batista and, most importantly, to define for more than 60 years, with the will and support of an indomitable people, the boundary that must always exist between sovereignty and the desire for hegemonic domination.
“For this and many other reasons, you, President Miguel Diaz-Canel, are a respected, respected and brotherly guest to the government that I represent, to the government of Mexico. Thank you for coming,” confirmed Lopez Obrador.
For his part, the President of Cuba said: “I am very happy and honored to set foot on Mexican soil again, meet friends and spend at least a few hours with this sweet part of the Hispanic family.”
“We are coming to return in person, the hugs we received during difficult and uncertain times, along with material assistance and technical advice in vital areas and activities,” Diaz-Canel added.
“It is always a great honor for me,” he said, “to get to the homeland of Benito Juarez, about whom our Marty wrote such sincere and deep assessments that there is not a single Cuban who would not recognize him as one of the great people of Our America, a symbol of the dignity of the indigenous nations and the struggle against the aggression of European colonialism and the expansionist ambitions of a powerful neighbor.
“Mexico, beautiful and dear, as they sing here and in Cuba, this is Juarez, and this is the story we will always be indebted to them for giving home, inspiration, strength and a path to those who fought for our freedom until we conquered it, from Jose Marti to Fidel Castro, Raul, Che and the generation of the century.”
And Mexico, Díaz-Canel added, “is also real, supportive, honest and fair, which is constantly expressed in the gestures and words of its government. For this reason, and because our people demand it, I express my deep respect and affection for the brotherly Mexican people and their President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. They are very popular in Cuba. To Mexico and to you, President,” he stressed.
