The death toll on the north coast of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo has risen to 45, with 49 people also missing due to heavy rains, the country’s media reported.
The search for rescue teams is mainly concentrated in the vicinity of San Sebastian, one of the areas most affected by the hurricane. About 2,500 people were evacuated from their homes.
The government of São Paulo considers this tragedy one of the largest in the history of the region. Governor Tarcisio de Freitas has issued a disaster decree in six cities: Ubatuba, San Sebastian, Caraguatatuba, Guaruja, Bertioga and Ilhabela.
