Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez announced a celebration in Havana, starting May 2, of the Third cycle of peace talks between the government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (PLA).
On his official Twitter account, the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Cuba will act with the traditional forethought and impartiality that characterize it as a guarantor and alternative meeting place.
The parties will return to this headquarters after a month’s break to begin discussions on the six points of the roadmap finalized during the second cycle, ending in Mexico.
The starting point will be a bilateral ceasefire agreement and a national government delegation will travel to Havana starting Wednesday, April 26, according to Telesur.
For its part, the dialogue delegation of the Colombian National Liberation Army – ELN, also from Twitter, thanked Cuba for hosting this dialogue table and confirmed that it will arrive in Havana on April 27th. We hope to fulfill the goals and objectives of this third cycle, which begins in the first week of May, said the guerrilla group, which it defined in three points: Community participation. 2. In turn, the High Commissioner for Peace tweeted that “The National Government Delegation in front of the Peace Dialogue Table with ELN reiterates its willingness to move forward in this process and appreciates the Republic of Cuba’s invaluable support for peace in Colombia. The third round of talks will be set up in Havana on May 2.”
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel ratified on Monday the commitment to peace between the Colombian government and the ELN through his Twitter account, in which he expressed his desire and “hope the parties make progress in this cycle of progress on the agreed agenda.” .
Negotiations between the government and the guerrillas were interrupted for four years, but resumed in November 2022 in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, and later took place in Mexico.
