A delegation of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), led by Politburo member and organization secretary Roberto Morales, visited the historic Cu Chi Tunnels in southern Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, PL reports.
Morales and his companions were received there by the commander of the Ho Chi Minh City Command, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nam, who wished them a successful visit to Vietnam and that it would strengthen friendship between the two countries, the Vietnamese and Cuban peoples. .
The legendary Cu Chi Tunnels were dug with rough tools by the militia of what was once Saigon between 1946 and 1968.
The gallery system, which by 1965 had reached some 200 kilometers in length and another 500 trenches, was built methodically and scientifically and is three stories deep, divided into sections according to their function.
The tunnels also have an emergency exit across the Saigon River and a secret ground-level ventilation system.

After the trip, according to Hanoi Moi newspaper, Morales thanked the Ho Chi Minh High Command for the warm welcome and assured that the visit allowed the Cuban delegation to learn more about the process of the Vietnamese people’s struggle for national liberation.
A high-ranking party leader and his entourage arrived in the southern metropolis the day before to coincide with the celebration of the 48th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the national reunification of the country, which allowed them to witness the celebrations held there.

Morales and his comrades began the program of activities in the southern city with an emotional meeting with solidarity organizations in Vietnam, especially the Antillean people.
The visit of the Cuban guerrilla delegation to this Indo-Chinese country represents the third and final stage of a tour of the socialist countries of Asia, which began on April 23 and previously included China and Laos.
