During the dialogue held in this city, Marrero Cruz thanked for the invitation to the event and support for the inclusion of the Greater Antilles from December 11, 2020 as an observer state of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

He also touched upon the bilateral meetings held this Thursday with the heads of government of the Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, as well as the identification of new areas of cooperation in the field of healthcare, energy, science, agriculture, biotechnology, tourism, food and medicine production.

The Prime Minister outlined progress in the implementation of mutually beneficial projects between Havana and Moscow, which can serve as a starting point for relations between the Greater Antilles and the EAEU. “We proposed to raise economic and trade relations with the countries of the Union to the level of excellent political relations.

“In these difficult times, when some countries impose unilateral sanctions against others, this Union is extremely important, because there is strength in unity. Cuba will not disappoint them as an observer state,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Russian president expressed his support and assured that he was in frequent talks with his Cuban counterpart Diaz-Canel and would support them. In addition, reviewing the topics discussed at the Congress, he emphasized the importance of the Union and the potential
member countries and observer countries.

Putin called for the development of industry and joint ventures, emphasized technological independence, e-government and interbank relations, and in the face of Western sanctions, said that self-sufficiency guarantees sovereignty.

“I would like to emphasize that the governments of our states are faced with large and comprehensive tasks to promote the integration
in the economic, social and humanitarian fields.

“We are talking about the further expansion of trade relations, the participation of our economies and economic agents in the Eurasian production, transport and logistics chains,” the President of Russia said, expressing confidence that “coordinated and joint work will help us achieve tangible results in the development of multifaceted cooperation between our states and peoples.”

Prior to this exchange, Marrero Cruz spoke at the final meeting of the III Eurasian Congress, where he confirmed that the current national, regional and global challenges make us look for our own solutions and viable projects in favor of integration, on decisive and strategic issues. for economic and social development.

In the presence of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, the head of the Cuban government considered the need for cooperation in
science and technology, finance, transport and logistics infrastructure, computerization and digital transformation, tourism, industry, humanitarian cooperation and other topics of interest.

He emphasized the importance of the Congress in the current international situation, which poses complex challenges for our countries, and hinted that “there is great potential for the development of trade, investment and economic cooperation between the EAEU member states and Cuba.” .

In addition, Marrero Cruz pointed out that the Greater Antilles, as an observer state of the Union, can play an important role in building up economic ties between the EAEU countries and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, based on their geographical location. and existing agreements between the parties.

“The availability of partial coverage agreements and economic additions to reduce tariffs signed by Cuba with the countries of our region represents an additional advantage to achieve the goals indicated on the basis of bonuses for all
party,” he said.

He recalled that as part of efforts to complement and design new integration spaces, Cuba presented a project
attractive and of mutual interest, in which it would be possible to move forward faster on the creation of an industrial park with the exclusive participation of the EAEU in the Mariel zone of special development.

In addition, he clarified that the park can accommodate investments from various sectors, among which the most priority ones were identified: the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries, transport; metallurgical industry; renewable energy and food production.

“We also agree with such fundamental areas of work as the computerization of society, aimed at the digitalization of the economy and electronic commerce,” the Prime Minister said, adding that this also meets the need to promote strategic alliances with companies from all countries of the Union.

Similarly, it meant that each of these proposals was to “promote the creation and transfer of knowledge for the joint development of alternative platforms in the face of the sanctions, unilateral measures and economic, commercial and financial blockades that some states unilaterally impose on our country.”.

Marrero Cruz reiterated that this is a unique opportunity for the Greater Antilles to meet and exchange experience with the Union on such strategic and current issues as those aimed at the development and well-being of our peoples and nations.

He reaffirmed Cuba’s continued determination to “cooperate in the implementation of the strategic directions for the development of Eurasian economic integration until 2025 and work in accordance with the Joint Cooperation Plan for 2021-2025 to implement the Memorandum of Understanding between Cuba and the Eurasian Economic Commission, which are fully consistent with the Economic and social development until 2030”.
