The third round of talks between the Colombian government and the ELN culminated this Friday in Havana with agreements that highlight a bilateral ceasefire that will last 180 days (six months) and the participation of civil society.
“We have reached a partial agreement with the ELN like never before, which will be progressive until a final agreement in May 2025,” President Petro said.
He added that the priority will be to ensure the protection of civilians in conflict zones, starting with children.
He assured that the agreement is based on human rights and international humanitarian law.
He highlighted the participation of society, which will be fundamental, and the proposal for a grand national agreement, which his government supports.
