Due to the coincidences that have developed in the destinies of the two friendly peoples, this Monday Politburo member and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz begins his program of activities in the Russian capital, after participating in the city of Sochi, in the meetings of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the III Eurasian Congress, and also the fulfillment of an important agenda that has strengthened our ties with the Union as an observer state.

It is sent on behalf of the Greater Antilles to the fraternal people with whom diplomatic relations were restored more than 60 years ago and which were strengthened with the support of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, “a sincere and reliable friend of Russia.” , according to the President of Russia.

They also left their mark on that meeting of the young Raul Castro Ruz, nearly seven decades ago, when on board Andrea Gritti’s ship, he accidentally met Nikolai Leonov, Cuba’s great friend. Since then, the army general, returning to his homeland after participating in the International Conference on Youth Rights, held in Vienna in the summer of 1953, has contributed to deepening ties between the two peoples who mutually admire each other.

His visits to the Slavic people – the last visit in 2015 to the celebrations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the defeat of fascism, a holiday that “must not be missed” in honor of the “friendship that still exists”, including a meeting with President Vladimir Putin – is a demonstration of that that together we will continue to draw a roadmap for the future of our peoples.

As Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez said in 2018, the Eurasian giant “is a sweet country, a brotherly people whose relationship goes back many years.” At present, these bonds of friendship are excellent, they have priority given by both governments, and have been repeatedly classified as strategic.

On such days, it is worth remembering that the generous Russian hand was one of the first to extend a helping hand to us at critical moments, such as the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the explosion in Saratoga, the fire in Matanzas. Supertanker Base and Cyclone Yang, just to quote the most recent ones, as Diaz-Canel himself summarized during his special speech to the State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament) last November during an official visit to the country.

Valuable, friendly and aimed at the development of bilateral relations in all areas of interest and mutual benefit, primarily in the fields of energy, metallurgy, transport and biotechnology, the dialogue that has been maintained during this time is described. And this was confirmed by the Russian president himself, who, receiving the head of the Cuban state in November last year, assured that he had “a great opportunity to analyze everything together with you, what has been done recently, what needs to be done in today’s difficult conditions; in fact, they probably never were simple.

“You know that the Soviet Union and Russia have always – and today – supported and continue to support the Cuban people in their struggle for independence, for sovereignty. We have always opposed any restrictions, embargoes, blockades, etc.,” the President said, calling for moving forward and strengthening cooperation “on the basis of this strong friendship, of course, taking into account the current conditions.”

It is in this context of expanding and strengthening ties that the first visit of Marrero Cruz to Russia as Prime Minister is taking place, which includes, among other things, meetings with top leaders, exchanges with the diplomatic mission of Cuba in this country and with representatives of the solidarity movement; as well as places to pay tribute to a brotherhood that has overcome all the challenges of history.

This is a time when our relations continue to strengthen, and both countries are interested in strengthening them in the economic and commercial spheres, therefore, new opportunities are being explored and materialized to realize this goal in projects related to the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030.

This visit by the Prime Minister and the delegation accompanying him is a continuation of the visit made by Diaz-Canel last November and confirms “the love that Cuba has for Russia”, as the head of state put it, adding that “it also identifies us in such difficult moments like those in which both countries live, besieged by sanctions imposed by the West. So, let’s bet that the fireworks that go off today are also a demonstration that Havana and Moscow are a very special family.
