BELIZE CITY.- “Being in Belize was a duty; three prime ministers of this fraternal country have visited Cuba, but we have not yet visited it,” said the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the President of the Republic, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, to Her Excellency Ms. dialogue in the House of Culture of this city.

“Being here is a healthy source of pride as well as an obligation, which is why we attach such great importance to this visit,” added the Cuban head of state, who thus began his official visit to Belize, where he often held official talks with Prime Minister John Bricegno, who led the exchange of views between both delegations.

Diaz-Canel explained to Ms. Fraila Tsalam that the purpose of the conference is to evaluate all bilateral issues and issues of cooperation, but above all, he stressed, to learn and learn from you, because in Belize many of the roots of our cultures coincide. , Maya, Garifuna and the entire Caribbean. “Being here,” the president said, “is an apprenticeship that strengthens our identity.”

The President of Cuba expressed his gratitude to the Governor General of this Central American country for the love he has received since his arrival and for the way his visit was organized.

Her Excellency Ms. Froila Tsalam testified to the affection of the Belizean people for the Cuban people and their authorities, spoke of the mutual support of both peoples and thanked Cuba for its cooperation in various social fields such as health, education and culture.

For our part, Diaz-Canel pointed out, we must also thank you for the support that you have given us all this time in the fight against the blockade, and especially today, when this blockade is intensifying, as well as for all the support they have given us in the face of natural disasters and accidents that we have suffered in recent times. “In the face of all this, we always get the support of Belize,” he stressed, “and we are grateful for these gestures and this help.”

In a conversation with the Governor General, the island’s President spoke of the intense work being done to refine what was agreed at the recent CARICOM-Cuba summit.

All our embassies in the CARICOM countries (Havana has diplomatic missions in 15 member countries of this integration body), Diaz-Canel said, are instructed to follow what was adopted at this meeting and to follow it.
