Militarize with 24,000 troops the American side of the border with Mexico.

TEXAS, May 11th. Federal authorities in the United States and the states bordering Mexico have deployed 24,000 troops to the southern border in the past few hours to stem a wave of migrants expected from midnight on Friday, May 12. effect again.

According to press reports, the Department of Defense sent 4,000 troops, the Border Patrol and other federal agencies sent 10,000, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent 10,000 National Guard troops.

The US government has estimated that El Paso, Brownsville and Laredo will be critical hotspots and has calculated the arrival of up to 12,000 migrants a day, more than its ability to take in or deport them, Telesur reported.

At a press conference the day before, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Majorcas emphasized that “our borders are not open, that illegal border crossings are against the law, and that those who are not eligible for assistance will be quickly returned. “

In addition, he asked the migrants “not to believe the lies, not to listen to the traffickers” and warned: “This is what will happen to you: you will be sent back.”

Section 42 was passed during the Donald Trump administration (2017–2021) and President Biden has retained it. It allows the expulsion of migrants ostensibly to control the health situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For its part, Section 8 considers those migrants who illegally cross a border and do not apply for it in a third country during their journey to the US as “ineligible” to apply for asylum. In addition, it states that “individuals and families arriving without permission may be deported and non-citizens may be deported to their country of origin.”

Under Section 42, a migrant may attempt to cross the border multiple times without legal proceedings, but under Section 8, the migrant is punished and deported. If a person repeats, they will be charged with a felony, and if they do so more than once, they will be jailed or banned for up to five years.

In addition to militarizing the southern border, the Departments of Homeland Security and the State Department announced the opening of one hundred regional immigration processing centers and are conducting a communication campaign in Spanish to discourage project participants from crossing the border illegally into the United States.

On Wednesday evening, agents from the National Guard and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) conducted a security and containment exercise for migrants at the San Ysidro International Port.

The exercise, which could be observed from the Mexican city of Tijuana, was aimed at measuring the ability of agents to block access in the event of a mass attempt by migrants to cross the border.

Also this Wednesday, several dozen migrants who were in the city of El Paso, Texas, were transferred to other processing centers inside the United States.
