Kyiv, May 11.— Kyiv needs more time to prepare a counter-offensive against Russian troops as the troops continue to wait for the promised delivery of aid, the Ukrainian president said Thursday in an interview with the BBC.

The BBC points out that in recent weeks, Ukrainian authorities have tried to lower expectations from a counteroffensive, as for Kiev, “any result that the West regards as disappointing” could mean a reduction in military support and pressure on negotiations with Moscow.
“Everyone will have an idea [al respecto]Zelensky said. “But they cannot put pressure on Ukraine to cede territory,” he added.
The Kyiv authorities are actively talking about a possible counteroffensive aimed at the return of territories, and from Moscow they indicate that they are ready to repel any counterattack.
On the other hand, RT reported that British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace announced on Thursday that the United Kingdom is sending long-range Storm Shadow missiles to Kiev, and noted that “providing these weapons systems gives Ukraine the best opportunity to defend itself.”
Earlier, CNN reported, citing several senior Western officials, that the UK had begun supplying Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine.
The missile represents “a real game-changer in terms of range” and gives Kyiv the capabilities it has been asking for since the start of the conflict with Russia, a senior US official said.
On the other hand, the informant stated that London received guarantees from the Ukrainian government that it would use these missiles only on Ukrainian territory and not in Russia.
Storm Shadow is a cruise missile with a range of more than 250 kilometers, stealth capabilities, jointly developed by the UK and France, which is usually launched from the air. Meanwhile, at present, the maximum range of weapons supplied by the United States to Ukraine is about 79 kilometers, the publication clarifies.
