As part of the ongoing strengthening of Cuba’s ties with its citizens abroad, it was decided to take the following measures, which will come into force on July 1, 2023.
- Extend the validity of passports to ten years for persons over 16 years of age and up to 5 years for minors; Eliminate the renewal requirement and reduce the cost of passports at consulates by setting a fee of USD/EUR 180 for over 16s and USD/EUR 140 for minors.
- Equate the length of stay in Cuba for Cubans living abroad and their foreign relatives (spouses and children).
- Establish for emigrants before July 1, 1971, the use of a Cuban passport when entering Cuba; under the new constitution.
The automatic and free extension of stay abroad over 24 months, announced in March 2020 to support Cubans who were abroad during the critical period of Covid-19, remains in effect.
These measures are complemented by other measures taken over the past 45 years to facilitate the travel of Cubans abroad, their return to Cuba and their greater participation in the political, economic and social life of their country of origin.
