At the 31st Havana International Book Fair, Santiago-based Natividad Alfaro Pena, a historical publishing house, received the National Edition Award 2022 today.

Fernando Rojas, Deputy Minister of Culture, and Juan Rodríguez Cabrera, President of the Cuban Book Institute, presented him with recognition in the Nicolás Guillén Hall of the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress.

Alfaro Peña said that this is the biggest tribute he has received in his life and especially thanked the authors he has worked with, including Olga Portuondo, Angelina Rojas, Jorge Ibarra and Fernando Martínez Heredia.

She also recalled starting writing in Editorial Oriente while still a literature student and insisting that it was a path of bumps but full of learning.

Omar Valino Cedre, chairman of the jury, said the award recognizes a nearly half-century professional career of work of great cultural resonance and historical value.

Neida Izquierdo Ramos, also a member of the jury, praised the professionalism and commitment of Alfaro Peña and emphasized that she was the first from Santiago to receive this award.

The National Publishing Award, the largest award of its kind in the country, has been awarded since 1998 to those who, through their talent and professional achievements, have contributed to the enrichment of Cuban publishing.

The jury for this edition also included Lourdes Gonzalez Casas, Caridad Atencio Mendoza and Rinaldo Acosta.
