The 2023 Book Fair kicked off in Ciego de Avila with a cultural show combining theatre, dance and music.
Viviana Martínez Cardenas, President of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Ciego de Avila, welcomed all participants; while the young writer Leoneschi Busquet, winner of the Spring Poetry Prize and Portus Patrice, among other awards, hailed the names of writers from Ciego de Ávila.
The opening ceremony was attended by Omar Valino, director of the National Library José Martí, writer and researcher Pedro Pérez Rivero, as well as writers and artists from the Hermanos Sais Association from different provinces of the country.

This issue will pay tribute to Ciego de Ávila writers, José Rolando Rivero and Arlen Regueiro Mas, who have recently passed away and left a mark with their writings and their work to spread culture.
According to information provided to the press, from this Thursday until next Sunday, the 12th, about 24,000 copies and 1,200 titles will be on sale; 392 of them correspond to copies corresponding to those published in digital format.
In this edition, the public will have access to 57 titles, which will be discounted from one to three pesos.
Among them, 25 children’s volumes published by various publishing houses of the country stand out.
The program includes a number of theoretical and exchange activities between specialists and writers.
One of the main panels is devoted to the work of Fina Garcia-Marrus, talking about her poetry and studies of Cuban culture, including questions about the figure of José Martí.

To the Apostle, on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of his birth, in the area dedicated to him, there will be a presentation of books written by him or dedicated to his work, as well as talks, such as Marty dedicated to journalism and literature.
From storyteller Julio Travieso, to whom the event is dedicated, along with Professor Araceli García-Carranza, his books will be presented dust and gold And It’s raining in Havana.
About Colombia, the country to which the Fair is dedicated, and about Latin American literature, an opinion table will be reserved. From Beautiful Real to Magical Realism: The Kingdom of this World and One Hundred Years of Solitude.
The Hermanos Saíz Association will present the titles awarded by the Calendar Awards, as well as design the concerts at its provincial headquarters and the various extensions that the event will have.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the Central Committee, Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo, provincial coordinator of the CDR, and Lebanese Izquierdo Alonso, first secretary of the party in the province, along with Thomas Alexis Martin Venegas, governor of Avilian territory.
