The 60th Trova Festival has started in Santiago de Cuba.

An artistic gala at the Salón de los Grandes, located very close to the city’s central Cespedes Park, opened last night the 60th Pepe Sanchez Trov Festival, which has been extended until next Monday, March 20, ACN reports. .

Eduardo Sosa, president of the organizing committee, mentioned the satisfaction of returning to the southeastern province for an event that has celebrated this musical genre for six decades.

The evening contributed to the recognition of outstanding troubadours and groups that, through their ongoing activities, contribute to the development of music on the Caribbean island.

Xiomara Vidal, Dúo Cohiba y el Así Son, Mauricio Figueral and Agusto Blanca, among others, liven up the night with their interpretation of classics from the musical repertoire of the country of the Antilles.

Presentations in communities, municipalities, student and labor centers, the great trovada on Rue Heredia and the colloquium of Lino Betancourt in memory are part of the agenda for this edition of the meeting.

Casa de la Trova, El Ingenio Multicultural Center, Esteban Salas Conservatory, hospitals and prisons, Universidad de Oriente and Medical Sciences are among the venues.

On the opening day, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in connection with the declaration of the Cuban Trova as the cultural heritage of the nation on December 2, 2022, an event to which the competition is dedicated on this occasion, as well as the 70th anniversary of the assault. in the barracks of Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes.

It will also mark the trajectory of artists and bands who cultivate traditional music and are worthy representatives of the national sound scene.
