Taekwondo gets quotas in Central America

Cuban Taekwondo has just qualified with a full team, in both combat and imaginary combat modalities, for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023.

According to information shared by Jeet, Cuban taekwondo fighters did not lose in kyorugi, or hand-to-hand combat; meanwhile, in poomsae, they reached the necessary quotas to guarantee their presence in the battle in the Central Caribbean region.

The qualifying tournament, which takes place at the Palacio de los Deportes de Heredia in Costa Rica, has brought together participants from 17 countries since last Wednesday, with a special mention to Mexico and Cuba, teams that shone in the tournament, which will last until this coming Saturday and it’s eligible for a world ranking.

Personally from Cuba, two-time world champion and Olympic bronze medalist Rafael Alba; and Tamara Robles from Holguín, both champions of the previous Central American and Caribbean Games held in Barranquilla in 2018.

The multi-sport event in the Central America region, which will take place from June 23 to July 8, 2023, provides that the taekwondo activities will take place in an additional event venue, in the Dominican Republic, a country that also receives seven other disciplines.
