BERLIN, 11 May. The German Railway and Transport Union (EGV) announced new warning strikes this Thursday, which will last from next Sunday evening until next Tuesday midnight.
German trade union sources also said the shutdowns would take place nationwide, affecting both long-distance and regional trains as well as freight transport, Telesur reported.
The strike plan announced by the railroad workers will be the third one to meet these labor demands and the longest one announced by EGV, which represents the 230,000 employees of both the German railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) and other fifty regional railway companies. .
The head of this wage conflict union, Cosima Ingenschej, assured that the call is due to the stalemate of negotiations that began with the employer two months ago, in which they demand a wage increase of 12 percent or a minimum of 650 euros per month for workers.
For its part, DB is offering proportional increases of 8 and 10 percent, depending on the salary category, as well as a compensation payment for accumulated inflation of 2,850 euros, which it considers “the highest in the history” of the company. with increases agreed to in other sectors, and at the same time branded the strike plan as “completely pointless”.
It was also stated that DB will offer passengers ample opportunity to change purchased tickets at no additional cost or request a full refund.
The EGV call followed a day of strike that paralyzed rail traffic across the country at the end of April and also coincided with strikes at various German airports.
